When I was writing HOW TO DATE YOUR COUSIN, I listened to lost of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Five Iron Frenzy and No Doubt, as well as some other random funk or funk-based music. Basically, all music that was kind of wild and fun.
But now that I'm spending so much time on my preferred genre and style (metaphysically-overtoned action-thriller) I'm listening to Muse almost exclusively.
I'm listening to a ton of Ray Lamontagne - moody, painful. Writing a gothic short. The more moody and the more painful, the better - Mazzy Star, some acoustic blues with ton of slide from my buddy Leonard's recordings.
